about

Over the years, I have received a lot of comparisons to Patti Smith. I don't always hear it, but as far as all of my recordings are concerned, I think this song comes pretty close to fitting that description.

lyrics

DEAD CITIZEN (LYRICS)

Feel the desperation
Some would call it bliss
One silent hesitation
Another opportunity missed …again

Well, I’ve become a doer
That leaves no time for thinking
I am forced to move and move
to avoid the feeling of sinking… again

Sitting in a capsule
Head all filled with brains
Atrophy the muscle
What intelligence remains?

Where’s my money?
God knows I gave my time
Money, money, money...
Sold my soul for a dime

Now I can say to my father
that I’m part of society.
My wages go to FICA
and I got a blunted curiosity, blunted curiosity.

Dead Citizen, you’re less than one
Are you having any fun giving your time away
Yeah, you gave all your time away.

Turn on the TV, keep on eating,
And I keep on sleeping as if nothing’s going on

And suddenly 10 O’Clock is looking kind of late
At 6:30… I get ready for my wake
ready, ready, ready for my wake.

Dead Citizen, you’re less than one
Yet you feel like three… three people all the time,
three people, people all the time.

I’m going down to the Lower East Side
To fetch my soul and shed my pride
Going down to Battery Park
Where kids run around and things don’t look so dark
...they don’t look so dark.

I am trembling, shaking in my skin
I’m no longer a dead citizen, dead citizen... dead!

Alive again… Alive again.

about

Randi Russo Los Angeles, California

Already known for her “honest, provocative lyrics” (The Big Takeover) and her upside-down guitar-playing which is “sweet when it needs to be but nasty in all the right places” (The Village Voice), Randi Russo continues to create songs with equal parts toughness & tenderness. While she often draws comparisons to PJ Harvey, Lou Reed & Patti Smith, Randi definitely has a voice of her own. ... more
